PROGRESSIVE ZIONIST STUDENTS TO TAKE TRIP TO HEBRON
On Friday, January 12th, 33 students affiliated with the Union of Progressive Zionists (UPZ) will be joining members of Breaking the Silence, a group of discharged Israeli soldiers concerned with how IDF practices in the Territories damage Israel’s cause, on a tour of Hebron.
The UPZ is a network of student activists organizing on campuses across North America for social justice and peace between Israel and the Palestinians. The organization has recently come under a wave of criticism from right-wing members of the Israel on Campus Coalition, the umbrella organization for pro-Israel Jewish groups on campus, for its sponsorship of Breaking the Silence speakers at American universities.
The half-day long trip, arranged by Breaking the Silence, will begin around 8:30am from ‘Binyanei Ha’uma’ in Jerusalem. A great learning experience for the students, it will include a walking tour through the city of Hebron, with an emphasis on the area’s history and Israeli policies there. Breaking the Silence soldiers will also report on their own experiences interacting with the city’s Palestinian and Israeli population.
