The letter below was sent by Ameinu President Kenneth Bob to President Barack Obama this morning.
Dear Mr. President,
On behalf of Ameinu, the largest progressive Zionist membership organization in the United States, I would like to thank you for your continued friendship and support for the State of Israel.
Ameinu agrees that the relationship between the United States and Israel must transcend partisan politics; this cannot be allowed to change during the upcoming presidential election campaign.
Ameinu wishes to express its steadfast support for your Administration’s approach toward Iran. To be sure, a nuclear-armed Iran is counter to the interests of the United States, Israel and the entire world. Ameinu concurs that all means must be exhausted in order to prevent Iran from possessing nuclear weapons; as you have stated, it is imperative to use “all elements of American power to pressure Iran.” Ameinu supports your continued use of diplomacy combined with crippling international sanctions; a military option should be held out as a last resort only, but must remain on the table.
As much of the world’s attention is focused on the very real threat posed by Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, we must not lose sight of the fact that peace between Israel and the Palestinians is also a vital interest of the United States, Israel and all of its neighbors. Ameinu calls on you to continue to help Israel and the Palestinians achieve a better future for all through a negotiated settlement, which will lead to two states for two peoples.
