On March 6, 2017, the Israeli Knesset enacted a new law banning entry of foreigners who advocate for boycotts, divestment or sanctions (BDS) against Israel, or territories controlled by Israel. On March 7, Ameinu released a statement strongly opposing the law, which we characterize as “an affront to Israel’s core values [that] plays directly into the hands of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.”
Ameinu believes the plan deeply compromises Israeli democracy. We also are troubled that it not only applies to BDS against Israel, but also to advocates of boycotts of settlements in the West Bank, which many in Israel and around the world view as an acceptable form of nonviolent opposition to the Occupation. For Ameinu, while we do not support boycotts, we believe this approach is wrong and serves to reinforce the Far Left’s claim that Israel and its supporters use the power of the state to violate their opponent’s freedom of speech.

Ameinu is working with a coalition of pro-Israel groups to let the Government of Israel know that we believe Israel’s strength and legitimacy flow from its values, not from counterproductive actions like this law.
Please join this campaign by sending an email to Israeli Ambassador Ron Dermer from the Campaign Landing Page. We encourage you to add any personal details about your Jewish, Zionist or pro-Israel identity to reinforce your message.
Thank you for participating in this collective action to protect Israel’s democracy and legitimacy.
