Ameinu, the largest progressive Zionist membership organization in America, welcomes the Israeli Peace Initiative (IPI) announced this week by Israeli political and military leaders, including former heads of the Mossad, Shin Bet and the Israeli military.
The initiative, based on the principle of a historic compromise between Israel and all of it’s neighbors, is a long-awaited response to the Arab Peace Initiative of March 2002. The Israeli plan outlines a two state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a comprehensive regional peace and an end to the conflict between Israel and it’s neighbors.
“It is heartening to see this kind of initiative undertaken by respected, mainstream Israeli leaders,” said Ameinu President Kenneth Bob. “In light of the tremendous changes sweeping the Middle East, Israel must make bold moves to ensure that a two state solution remains viable. The IPI is such a move.”
“The recent leak of the so-called “Palestine papers” has proven that there is a Palestinian partner for peace. The IPI is a serious document that could provide a basis for Israel and the Palestinians to resume face to face negotiations,” Bob continued. “Ameinu calls upon the government of Israel and the American Jewish community to embrace this initiative.”
